BREAST CONTOURING

Breast Enlargement & Breast Augmentation

Women with small or underdeveloped breasts who wish to enhance their appearance may choose to have a procedure called breast augmentation mammoplasty.

During the procedure, small incisions are made in either the crease under the breast or under the nipple so that the implant can be inserted directly under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. The implant is then filled with saline or salt water to the size the surgeon finds correct for your body size and lifestyle.

The surgery can be performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia and takes 1 hour to complete. Afterwards, most patients can return to work within 5-6 days after the surgery and exercise and other strenuous activities may be resumed in about a month. All sutures are removed in 7 -10 days after surgery and your surgeon may recommend a surgical support bra.

Breast Lift

A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a procedure for safely lifting the breast. During the procedure, excess skin is removed and the nipple raised to a higher position. The breast skin is then reshaped and tailored to create the desired effect. To maximize results, your surgeon may recommend the use of saline breast implants along with the mastopexy procedure. Women who have planned pregnancies should postpone their breast lift until afterwards.

The surgery can be performed as an outpatient and generally takes 2-3 hours to complete. Most patients can return to work within 4-5 days following surgery and a trained nurse may be offered by your surgeon to make visits your home and assist in your recovery.

Breast Reduction

The weight from very large breasts can cause a variety of problems including back and neck pain, skin irritation and breathing difficulty so breast reduction is usually performed to correct or improve those medical problems and may be covered by health insurance. The procedure removes fat, tissue, and excess skin from the breast, making the breast smaller, lighter, and firmer. During a breast reduction fat, tissue, and excess skin are removed, making the breast more light and firm. Also, the nipple is repositioned to be more proportionate to the new breast size.

For maximum result, it is recommended that the breast be fully developed before surgery is performed. Though, if large breasts are causing serious problems, younger patients may have this procedure if recommended by the surgeon. The procedure takes about 3-5 hours under general anesthesia and recovery is about 7-10 days. Afterwards, the doctor may offer a trained nurse to visit you home and aid in your recovery. You will be given a support bra to be worn for three weeks following the surgery to reduce swelling and bruising.  Most can return to work in two weeks and can resume strenuous exercise and lifting in 3-4 weeks.

After your procedure the physicians at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery may offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist in your recovery. For several weeks following surgery you will be wearing a support bra to reduce swelling and bruising.
